Bobby Bruhn had always wanted to create something unique that would stand out from the crowd. So, when he purchased an old truck from a guy in Utah, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with it. He brought the truck home, and his wife asked him how much of the truck he planned to keep. Bob replied that he only wanted to keep the front bumper, four fenders, hood, portions of the cab, and the tailgate emblem, everything else was going to the dump.
It took four long years of hard work and dedication, 350 feet of cutting and welding, and countless hours of labor to transform the truck into what it is today. Bobby knew that the final product would be worth all the effort.
When he first acquired the truck, the bed was scrapped, and there wasn’t much left of the stock vehicle. However, Bob had a clear vision of the modifications he wanted to make. He pie-cut and reshaped the hood, chopped the cab by an inch and a half, and lengthened it by seven inches to accommodate coup doors. He laid the windshield post back by 1.5 inches and modified the windshield opening to install the glass from behind with no gasket. Bobby also shaved the drip rails and welded the front fenders to the cab for a smooth, gapless transition.
He narrowed, radiused, and filled the holes in the front bumper, extended and frenched the headlights, and recontoured the hood. He also smoothed and flattened the firewall, rolled the inner fenders from scratch, and fabricated a custom radiator support/shell from scratch. Bobby added a bumper filler pan and provided relief for electric hood actuator motors.
The custom work did not stop there. Bob created a hand-made custom dashboard that wraps around into the doors, with hidden hinges on the doors. He also welled the custom fabricated running boards in place, not bolted, and welded the bedsides to the cab. He used the second set of rear fenders inside the bed for tubs to mirror the exterior fenders, widened two inches inside and
out. The front and rear wheel openings were radiused, and a rear roll pan with a hidden license plate was added. The underside of bed rails was capped, and a custom one-of-a-kind billet grille was created.
The hood featured twin tunnels to feed a shotgun scoop, and the truck had a lower color of KS-10 followed by 2 coats of BC-26 white with 3 coats of DP-28 Silver pearl in SG-150. The upper color was a mixture of SG-101 Lemon Yellow and KK-02 Lime Gold Kandy with 2 coats of DP-28 Silver Pearl in SG-150. Bob applied three coats of UFC-35, and a silver engine turn graphic was applied and tinted with a mixture of gold Kandy Kolors. Then pinstriping was applied HOK urethane stripe colors, and finally, three more coats of UFC-35 were applied to bury the stripes and graphics.
To add to the unique look, Bobby added African elm and ebony pinstripes with raised ebony dividers in the bed.
After all of the hard work, Bobby Bruhn had created a one-of-a-kind truck that was sure to turn heads wherever it went. All of the time, effort, and dedication he put into the project were well worth it.
