Ray’s Coupe

Ray’s Coupe

The three window coupé is a style of automobile characterized by two side windows and a backlight. The style was popular from the 1920s until the beginning of World War II. When everything stopped up and a red Coupe was not the “uniform “ for the next 5 years! While many manufacturers produced three window coupés, the 1932 to 1936 Ford is a particular favorite of hot rodders after the war. The three-window coupé has a distinct difference from the five-window coupé, it was not quite the high-octane style they were looking for. I saw that when I meet Ray for the first time. This is what he told me when I photographed his car by a bird sanctuary in Orange County CA:

When I bought the car it was already built into a hot rod.  The car had a great look but was very rough.  I completely disassembled the car.  Everything came out and or off, and I started over!    I started by scanning a photo of the car in order to modify the car on a computer.  My goal was to get a visual of my idea of what I thought the car should look like.  I stuck to my original plan and, the car when completed was better than I had imagined.  I have always had an interest in vintage cars and motorcycles.  It all started when I was a young teenager restoring antique Schwinn bicycles.  My goal was to build the coolest drivable hot rod in So Cal.  (Tall task Ray!)  It was through hard work and the help of my closest friends that I was able to complete it.  I would like to thank each of them for their support and contributions because I could not have done it without them!  Special thanks to Beanie, Robert, John, Tom, Mike L., Mike K., Flip, and Chris.  You guys are the best!  Most importantly, I would like all of this dedicated to my son Tyler, whom I love more than anything!

All these friends helped Ray to put in a 53 Merc Flathead with a Edlebrock heads with all the right crank, bearings pistons, and Camshaft, all balances of course!

Roadrunner engineering provided the blower and he mounted Fenton headers, all this with a Mallary ignition gives him about250 hp and 35 ft lbs torque.   Chris Thompson chopped the top 3” headlights came from a 41 Chevy pickup and its painted in classic Ford, red and black..  He’s got 15 “wheels steel wheels back and front. Positraction from a 68 Camaro. All this rests on a air ride suspension.  I am sure Ray have a ton of fun on Pacific Coast Highway with such a stunning Hot Rod!
