Sean Cassar 1959 Corvette

Sean Cassar 1959 Corvette

I already had one car shoot behind me with Sean when I was introduced to his very special 1959 Corvette. He and his brother collect and restores cars and this Corvette they found 4 years ago at a Barrett Jackson auction. They are Corvette lovers and bought it to add to their collection, it was 100% original and not all that good to drive, so they decided to do a custom rebuild an everyday driver, there are no trailer queens in their garage and they like to track drive the car. And this mission was simple, an old Corvette built with new ZR1 technology to get the feel and rumble of a new supercar. We wanted to build this car 50 years after the 2002 ZR1 release. Building on this theme he also wanted to incorporate other race design features from other supercars. The exhaust with a Lamborghini feel, and the air diffuser had a Ford GT in mind, but we were very careful to make sure that we did not change the look of the car to the point where it was not easy to tell what year it was. It is definitely 1959, and if you know the car well, you will pick out all the custom-made parts. The foundation is a frame from, and the eng is of course LS9 “ZR1” V8 with a dry sump oil system and an intercooler Supercharger. It is mated to a Tremec T56 6-speed transmission, the rear axle is a Ford 9” 4:11 with a custom-built driveline. The suspension is Air Ride all around with Wilwood breaks, 6 pistons in the back. He used Nutek 19” wheels and Hankook tires. The car had a ton of custom hand-built work done by Alan Palmer, like the front and rear bumper windshield and tonneau cover cradling the front seats. Much of the dash buttons functions were integrated into an Apple iPad. Ron Mangus did the pretty red leather interior. Sean told me; “This is what it meant to build a “one of a kind” car. My camera and I so agree.
