John Flowers 67 Nova SS

John Flowers 67 Nova SS

I have owned several cars through the years (mostly stock appearing with some performance enhancements) and was at a point where I was looking to go in a different direction. I had a 67 Nova SS 355, 4 speed, that was nice but wasn’t what I really wanted. I wanted more power, bigger wheels, lower stance, and it had to be a big block, but I didn’t want to cut up a perfectly fine 67 SS. I was discussing this with longtime friend and fellow car guy Bob Saltarelli. He said he knew where there was a 67 Nova SS that had been raced and cut on and had been in storage for many years. This sounded like the perfect candidate for what I had in mind. I agreed to the deal under one condition: Bob would lend his expertise to the build. Bob and I have been friends for 25+ years and he is a fanatic on details, as I am. I didn’t want a lot a customizing, but wanted to make sure that what we did do would be done superbly. After disassembly, the car went to Bob Wilke at Bob’s Vintage Chevy to have the body smoothed and straightened, the cowl filled, and the dash filled and smoothed. After this, everything but the paint was pulled together in a little one-car garage. After over two years of frustration, aggravation, cursing, spitting and hair-pulling, we got it done. The car is everything that I wanted and more. Big block power, big brakes, big wheels, perfect stance, to go with the big grin on my face.
