Roland Sands Stomper

Roland Sands Stomper

Roland Sands, the owner of Performance Machine, designed and built a 2002 Softail Standard motorbike with the help of his team in just three weeks. The bike’s frame, which originated in Long Beach and is now located at 6892 Marlin Circle in La Palma, California, was built from the ground up and features a Roland Sands 2004 Softail frame and swingarm. The bike’s stretch measures -2 inches in the backbone and -1 inch in the downtube, with a 35-degree rake.

The engine of the bike features 95” HD cases and crank, which were balanced and blue printed by Wink Eller, and has a horsepower of 98. The heads, valves, pistons, cylinders, camshaft, lifters, and pushrods were all made by S&S, with the carburetor being an Edelbrock. The air cleaner was designed by Roland Sands himself, and the exhaust and custom BeeHive tip were made by Roland and Brett.

The bike’s frame is fitted with Ohlins radial mount forks and triple trees designed by Roland. The front wheel measures 21 x 2.15 inches and is equipped with a PM Contour Method rim, a Metzeler tire, and a PM 4 piston radial mount brake. The rear wheel measures 18 x 8.5 inches and has a PM Contour Method rim and a custom mount PM driveside brake. The tail section was designed by Roland, and the fender is a Tail Section by Roland. The bike is also fitted with Ohlins shocks.

The handlebars of the bike were designed by Roland Sands, and there are no risers. The headlights are a custom projector beam, and the taillights are Radiantz lights mounted under the tail section. The bike does not have turn signals, and the speedometer fell off. The tachometer and gauges were forgotten, and the seat foam is from a TZ 250. The bike’s controls feature PM Contour Mid Controls and a PM Contour Clutch Hydraulic Clutch Slave. The primary is a PM Contour Primary, and the oil tank was designed by Jeff Decker and mounted by T Foster. The fuel tank features a billet top designed by Roland Sands, with J Chop shaping the steel.

The bike’s paint features gold leaf lettering and numbers with a top secret red flake, and was done by Chris Wood of Airtrix in Santa Barbara, California. The bike does not have any chrome.

The bike was supposed to take at least two months to build, but it was completed in just two weeks. Unfortunately, Roland Sands fell ill and passed a kidney stone shortly after its completion. The bike has sentimental value to Roland Sands because he had a great team of guys who helped him complete the project. Roland Sands is one of the most famous bike builders in California and is also a recognized road racer.
